Raging pickle; puzzling pickle; too-salty pickle; measly pickle; when it comes to potato chips, Shelf Life has experienced the gamut of dismal dill flavours. But these chips are produced by actual cucumber wranglers, so we got interested. Based in Detroit and Brooklyn, this six-year-old company makes traditional-style, locally sourced dill pickles, pickle relish, bloody Mary mix and crinkle cut garlic-dill chips, which are trans fat free. And while the list of ingredients features one or two less-than-ideal ingredients - eg. dextrose, Maltodextrin – McClure’s chips are flavoured with real dill extract and dill weed. They taste absolutely mouthwatering – crunchy and briny, with a dash of garlic and not too much sodium. Shelf Life is already planning a feast of guilty pleasures: cheeseburger and Coke, plus a scattering of these babies. While we’re at it, we’ll probably check out the mothership and pick up a jar of the pickles.
